Dom Bridgman
Dom brings a lifetime of sailing experience and a deep respect for maritime heritage to every project he undertakes. From an early age, he learned to sail his father’s Wayfarer dinghy and quickly showed a natural talent at the helm, competing in local and regional races.
While studying at the Agricultural College in Aberystwyth, Dom founded and led the university’s sailing team, successfully competing against other universities across the UK. After graduating, he continued to explore the coastline of Britain, sailing single-handedly around the country in his dinghy while working as a shepherd in Devon — a testament to his independence and love of the sea.
Dom’s professional sailing career has been shaped by a belief that traditional boats and seamanship can be powerful tools for social change. He has worked as a sail training skipper and community woodworking teacher for Exeter Probation Services and The Priory in Totnes, helping individuals develop confidence, teamwork, and transferable skills through hands-on work with heritage vessels.
An inspiring and compassionate leader, Dom creates an environment of trust, respect, and shared purpose aboard every boat he sails.
Together with Barbara, he realised a lifelong vision by restoring and sailing Ibis, a classic vessel now serving as a beacon for social and economic regeneration within the coastal communities of the South West — a living example of heritage sailing at its most meaningful.
