A NEW PARADIGM IS EMERGING

Join three of the most profound thinkers of our time: Satish Kumar—educator, peace activist, and ecological visionary; Helena Norberg-Hodge—author, filmmaker, and pioneer of the localization movement; and Keibo Tsuji—Japanese anthropologist, leading environmental activist, and renowned author of Slow is Beautiful.

This autumn, Schumacher Wild will be coming to Japan for the first time. Over a two-week period, lectures and workshops by Schumacher College lecturers will be held across the country. To commemorate this, an online talk with these three distinguished figures has been organised.

The theme of the talk is the fusion of Western and Eastern wisdom. Satish hails from India, Keibo from Japan, and Helena’s roots are in Ladakh. E.F. Schumacher’s own roots trace to Burma, and Fritjof Capra has been deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy. The very origins of the College are connected to Tagore.

By engaging deeply with the perspectives on nature, traditional cultures, and eco-friendly lifestyles that have been practised in Japan and the East for centuries, Schumacher College—an embodiment of Western wisdom—aims to create a greater synergy, accelerating the journey to cover the world with love and gentle smiles.

Drawing inspiration from kincentric principles and regenerative science emerging from Indigenous scholars, the conversation will explore how to reinterpret holistic science from the vantage point of Japan and the East, and outline the directions we should take together.
