Dr Rachel Sweeney

Rachel is a practicing movement artist whose research focuses on transdisciplinary approaches to decolonizing body-place relationships, creatively engaging with cultural heritage, and exploring sustainability discourses. Rachel is passionate about bringing movement-based knowledge into the field of eco pedagogy through transdisciplinary engagement across environmental health and creative arts, and her work is always centred on ecological wellbeing as a meaningful way to connect people and place. She has taught across Higher Education in the UK and Ireland since 2006, and is a member of the Regenerative Learning Network, global consultants in Futures Education.

Rachel led the MA program in Movement, Mind, and Ecology at Schumacher College from 2021-2024 and research posts include a Visiting Fellow through the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University and a Centre Fellow through the Centre for Sustainable Futures at the University of Plymouth. Her work has received support from international bodies such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council UK, Creative Ireland, and CSIRO Australia, as well as local organisations including Dartmoor National Park Authorities, Teignmouth County Council, and Dance in Devon.
