A weekend of connecting with trees in diverse ways, from identifying species and understanding tree biology, to intuition, intimate sensory experience and deep soulful connection. We are so excited to welcome Kara Moses back for the return of this popular and much-loved course. Join us this September for a deeply nourishing experience with nature.

Key Information

Course Overview

Trees have always held a special place in human culture as sources of not only food, medicine, fuel and practical use but creative inspiration, mythic symbolism and spiritual significance.

Have you ever wondered if trees can communicate, and how? Or how they grow, and what their shape tells us about their lives? Or how to identify different species without looking at the leaves, and what their presence might tell us about the soil, water or other living beings in the surrounding landscape? Or perhaps even what it feels like to be a tree?!

Over this weekend we'll connect deeply with trees in diverse ways, from learning to identify species and understanding basic tree biology to intimate sensory experience and deep soulful connection. We'll learn about their uses and services, myths and folklore associated with them and cultivate a whole new appreciation for our wooded friends. Then, based on this deepened understanding, we tune into our intuitive wisdom and the subtle energetic qualities of the trees and discover the magic that awaits!

This weekend course uniquely blends practical field ecology and deep nature connection.

Together we'll learn to:

  • Identify common tree species using a range of techniques including  bark, buds, and shape

  • Learn about their ancestral uses of trees and how we have evolved alongside them

  • Learn about different tree species' place in myth, legend and folklore

  • Learn how to interpret tree ‘body language’ - how the shape of a tree can tell you its life story

  • Understand basic tree biology – how they grow, live and communicate with each other

  • Step into the secret world of trees

  • Connect with trees using dynamic multi-sensory awareness techniques for heightened awareness and deep connection with nature

  • Tune into the subtle energetic qualities of trees for ecological healing

  • Develop nature observation techniques to build into your daily life

Course Structure

The course will draw upon a range of learning modalities, from discussion, practical activities and presentation, to embodied learning, reflection, solo time, and ritual.

Beginning with modern science, we’ll learn about tree biology and ecology, brush up on tree ID, and meet a range of native species - including their practical uses and spiritual/mythological significance in Celtic culture. We’ll then transition to a deeper way of being with the trees via some gentle crafting, immersing ourselves increasingly deeply in ecological empathy, intuition, inter-species communication and simple ritual.

Day 1 - Intro, Welcome and Tree Biology

Day 2 - Meeting Native Species & Tree Identification

Day 3 - Deep Connection, Intuition & Inter-species Communication

Why Join This Course?

This course uniquely combines cutting edge science with ancient wisdom and ways of knowing and being with the more-than-human; much needed balance in a world of polarised modernity. Offering a glimpse into the secret world of trees, it aims to support a shaking off of human supremacy and a stepping into deep ecological humility.

Facilitators

Kara Moses

Kara is an ancestral skills educator, writer and conservation forester with a passion for wildlife tracking, foraging, trees and multi-species flourishing from a kincentric perspective. Her approach embraces the philosophy that wild living skills aren’t about lone survival or mastering nature but about thriving together in reciprocal relationship with the non-human communities that support us - an invitation to ecological humility and to relationship. She is particularly interested in radical, decolonial approaches to more-than-human relationships, social change and ancestral skills and has developed an approach called Radical Nature Connection, which finds expression in the Radical Ecological Pedagogies curriculum. Kara was responsible for researching and writing the twelve best practice case-studies in  the Kincentric Leadership handbook and is a Kincentric Training Partner. She lives in an off-grid co-operative of eight humans and one dog in west Wales, where she runs courses on their rewilded land.
